A VALENTINE'S DAY TREATISE TO MY FAMILY...
This day has always been a special one in our home…
From the time my kids were little, we would celebrate with Joy and Abandon!
Red and Pink Hearts everywhere, heart shaped cut out cookies (and icing and flour from one end of the kitchen to the other), Valentine gift bags, presents, and goodies letting us know how much we meant to each other. Ending with a special Valentine’s Day Feast (usually consisting of my famous “Heart Shaped Meatloaf”, Cheddar and Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes and a beautiful Heart Shaped Cake for dessert) And of course afterwards a special movie and popcorn.
Now, my kids are all grown and off experiencing incredible lives of their own…
So today I am reflecting on these thoughts…
Of these amazingly precious souls who bring such Love, Joy, Richness and Blessings to my Life…My Children and Grandchildren…
They have Graced me with such Beauty, and while I worked so hard to raise them and teach them the things that I thought they would need…sometimes it is difficult to discern who was the teacher and who was the student…
So to my Beautiful Family…This is my Valentine’s Day Words of Love and Thanks to You…
To William Robert, my firstborn, I am so profoundly grateful and proud…
For your fierce loyalty, love and dedication to family. For your compassion. For your generosity of Spirit and Self (you are always there whenever anything is needed to be done, without being asked or fanfare or recognition…you always go above and beyond…it is in these traits that I see your Grandfather mirrored the greatest), For your role as Positive Male Figure, Peacemaker & Voice of Logic, For your incredible intuitive sensitivities, (which you try hard to deny), And for your willingness to voluntarily step outside of your comfort zone and take risks, even though I know this is difficult for you… For being my best friend all those years it was just the two of us. For suffering through endless lectures and unasked for advice...and for still making me feel important, by continuing to ask for my opinion to this day. And for being the kind of wonderful man who would attract such a lovely soul as Kristen into your life.

To Christian Emerson, my proverbial middle child, I am so profoundly grateful and proud…
For your incredible sense of humor, which made me laugh and kept me going through the darkest and lightest of times, whether it was forced labor in digging a garden or helping mom move after 20 years in the same house, the gift of lightening up is always heaven sent and a welcome respite. For your immense sensitivity to the feelings of others and the world around you, (even though you try hard to hide this from view, it was you who stood with me at your grandfathers passing, as we held his hands to the end, and so many other times that were difficult for me, you were there), For your tenacious work ethic, and for your amazing ability to turn struggle into a challenge that you never give up until seen to completion. For your impeccable sense of style (which I Know you get from me…) And for your unbelievable good taste in women for choosing Beautiful Jessie as your lifemate.
